Australian War Memorial
The Australian War Memorial is Australia’s national memorial to the members of all its armed forces and supporting organisations who have died or participated in the wars of the Commonwealth of Australia – especially World War I and II. The memorial includes an extensive museum too. The Australian War Memorial was opened in 1941.
The Memorial is located in Australia’s capital, Canberra and is simply a stunning and moving place….
When the Memorial closes each day, there is a ceremony at which visitors can gather at the entrance, hear a very brief explanation from a host, and listen as a recording of the “The Last Post” is played. On significant days (as below) a piper or a bugler descends from the gallery, playing the Last Post. After the piper or bugler has played the Last Post they close the doors of the War Memorial as a great symbol.
