Just taking a look. Been on the facebook pages.
My family goes back to circa 1600 and all lived in Northamptonshire.
Trying to draw a family tree so hopefully I'll put this on my website at some point in the future.

I am new to the board and I believe just a baby in Betts research. I have looked for over 20 years but can get no further than a a wedding certificate for my grandparents William Henry Betts and Stella Henrietta Hudson Aug 1937 in Bellingham, Whatcom , WA (at her Aunts house) .. My dad William Stafford Betts was born 11 March 1938 in Seattle, King, Wa... From the history I know they never lived together. My dads baby book says that his grandparents are William Clark Bets and Mary Ann __?__. Cannot be sure that is factual. His mother died when he was 5 and he was raised by his maternal grandmother. Before my dad passed away 6 Dec 1989, he wanted me to find his parents. I did not find either until after he passed. I was not even sure William Henry Betts was a real person until I found the marriage cert a few years ago thanks to the state of Washington for making their records digitalized and searchable. Any ideas where to look next. I know once I crack the grandparents the info will flow.

I am descended from Benjamin Betts who came to Wallace, Nova Scotia in 1777 from White Plains, Conn., USA. No one has been able to definatively connect him to England that I know about.

I am descended from the Thomas Betts (1618-1688), supposedly born in Hertfordshire, England and died in Norwalk, Connecticut Colony. The most recent Betts in my direct line would be Caroline Betts b. 2 Sep 1797, m. 14 Feb 1825 Gideon Ferris, and d. 2 Mar 1843 in Greenwich, Connecticut. Must admit to not having touched this line in quite some time though.

My grandfather Horace Cecil Diss was wounded on the Somme in 1916 seconds after leaving a trench while trying to take High Wood. High Wood was taken within a few days later but this was many months after troops had been in the wood for the first time but then withdrew. Many thousands of troops on both sides were killed taking this low elevation hill.

He survived after 24hr in a dugout and a further day on train to hospital. On recovery he was then responsible for training more troops prior to moving to france and the front. Some photos of the Somme locations can be seen at www.dissfamily.org.uk under meet the family
